Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division, is asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect whose image was captured on surveillance video entering and exiting the apartment complex at 2208 W. 8th St.
On June 5, 2015 around 5:00 a.m. the suspect approached the victim at the corner of 8th Street and Alvarado Street, and asked the victim if he knew a mutual friend. The victim then befriended the suspect and allowed him to enter his residence to wait for the mutual friend. After several hours, the suspect began to use the victim's cell phone. When the victim asked for his cell phone back, the suspect became angry and struck the victim multiple times in the head and body. The suspect told him not to move, terrified he complied with the suspect's demands. The suspect then began to ransack the victim's apartment removing property. The suspect was using victim's phone to text unknown person and demanded the victim's exact address. The victim was fearful that additional suspects were going to come to his residence, so he jumped out of a window and ran from his residence. The suspect removed property from the victim's residence and fled on foot.
The suspect is described as a male, Hispanic, 23 years of age with black hair, brown eyes, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and 170 pounds, AKA "Diego". He was wearing glasses, white long sleeve shirt, light blue jeans, black shoes with white shoe laces, and possible name of Carlos Rivas.
Anyone with information or who recognizes the suspects are urged to call LAPD's Rampart Area Robbery Detectives at 213-484-3629. During non-business hours or on the weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
